The White Cottage, St. Helena
After several previous additions, the room arrangement in this small cottage near St. Helena did not meet the needs of its new owners for their weekend excursions to the country. Collaborating with architect Arnold Mammarella, we moved the kitchen to the back of the house near the deck so the family could easily dine and entertain around the back-yard pool. Countertops of granite and butcher block and stainless steel appliances combine elegance with informality. We also separated the public and private spaces of the house, remodeled two bathrooms, added a foyer, replaced an unsightly staircase to the attic bedroom, and added new oak flooring and architectural details throughout the house. |
Kitchen, St. Francis Woods, San Francisco
This original kitchen from a 1950's stucco house
was poorly organized, tiny, and unattractive. Our client, an excellent
cook, wanted a relaxing, beautiful space to entertain her extended
family. We reorganized the space to make it functional for this
family's lifestyle, replacing an obscured door and window to the
side yard with a clear view from the breakfast bar. The clean lines,
granite counters, cherry floors, and ash cabinets brought just the
warm welcome our client and her family had in mind. This project
appears in the book Remodeled Kitchens and Baths. View
